Supervisor Drug and Alcohol DOT Training

Making the Workplace Safer and Mitigating Liability with Training

Every commercial motor vehicle driver that operates a vehicle in the United States must understand and follow the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Regulations. Designated individuals must be trained a minimum of one hour on controlled substance use and one hour on alcohol misuse. This course meets and exceeds the DOT Supervisor training requirements.

Not sure if you are subject to the DOT Regulations? Check out Am I Covered (U.S. DOT website) for more information.

In addition to understanding the DOT Regulations and ensuring employees comply, a supervisor must also monitor employee performance to ensure safe operations. This means knowing how to identify an unfit employee and determine if the use of alcohol or drugs may be involved. Supervisors also need to be ready to make testing decisions following an accident. Corridor’s Supervisor Drug and Alcohol DOT Training covers all of this and more.

Topics in this course include:

  • Applicable legislation (human rights, OH&S)
  • Drugs and their effects (alcohol, cannabis, illicit drugs, prescription medications)
  • Standard alcohol and drug testing procedures
  • Performance management best practices
  • Recognizing and documenting unfit for work situations
  • Making testing decisions in reasonable cause situations
  • Protocols for post-incident testing
  • U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Regulations

By the end of the course, you will:

  • Meet and exceed the U.S. DOT Supervisor training requirements (1 hour alcohol
    training, 1 hour drug training).
  • Understand how to conduct unfit for work investigations
  • Know the correct procedures to follow in a reasonable cause testing situation
  • Know the steps to take following an accident or incident with respect to alcohol and drug testing
  • Know how to handle an employee who refuses testing
